The Taiwan service industry has been developing rapidly in recent year. The industry's current output accounts for 73% of GDP and about 251 billion US dollars in 2005, making it a key sector on the island. 

TAITRA hopes to develop the Taiwan services industry as important link to the world. To this end, TAITRA inaugurated the Service Industry Promotion Center in July, 2006, to facilitate the globalization of Taiwan's burgeoning service industry. At present, the Center has been focusing its efforts on six service areas: construction, medical and healthcare, tourism and leisure, logistics (covering logistics businesses and chain stores), IT and entertainment. These are currently the most important areas of Taiwan's services industry.
